BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A steady rain and muddy conditions proved to be too much to overcome for the Detroit Titans Sunday as they lost 2-0 to Western Illinois in the final game of the Bowling Green Falcon Invitational. Both teams are 1-1 overall after the game.
The Titans had several chances to get on the board. Jason Massoglia (Troy, MI/Athens) twice just missed a goal off a foul shot from just outside the box. Mark Djurovski (Shelby Twp, MI/East Carolina/Oakland) also almost put one in off a foul shot. The best chance of the day came in the second half, when Tristan Horvath (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Lahser) took a long pass from Alex Kawalit (Mississauga, ON/St. Francis Xavier/Memphis) and tried to score a goal in the top half of the net, but Leatherneck goalie Stephen Patterson was able to just get a fingertip on it and deflect it over the net.
For the game, Detroit outshot Western Illinois 15-7. Massoglia and Djurovski had four shots apiece. Horvath led the team with two shots on goal.
Detroit is in action at the Buffalo Classic next weekend. The Titans face the host Bulls on Friday September 1 at 7:00 pm. They then face off against Canisius on Sunday. Game time there is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
