The Falcons' home schedule consists of 13 regular-season games, the most since the 1990-91 campaign.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, after winning back-to-back MAC regular-season and tournament championships, will play two games against each of the five other East Division schools, while facing each of the six West Division teams once apiece.
The East Division consists of Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami and Ohio, in addition to the Brown and Orange. The Falcons will open the league slate with five games vs. East Division opponents, before playing six contests vs. West Division foes and concluding the regular-season schedule with five more games against the East.
In the cross-divisional games, BGSU will host Ball State, Central Michigan and Toledo, while hitting the road to face Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
Miller and the Falcons will open the MAC schedule at Akron on Jan. 3, before hosting Buffalo (Jan. 6) and Kent State (Jan. 10). BGSU has faced KSU in each of the last two MAC Tournament championship games. Trips to Ohio (Jan. 13) and Miami (Jan. 16) close out the first phase of the league schedule.
Central Michigan comes to Anderson Arena on Jan. 20 to begin the Falcons' six-game swing vs. the West. Trips to Western Michigan (Jan. 24) and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 28) follow, closing out the first half of the league slate. BGSU and EMU squared off in the MAC's first-ever matchup of two teams with identical 7-0 league records last year, with the Falcons winning a close game at Anderson Arena. That proved to be the only conference loss for either squad, as BGSU wound up a perfect 16-0 in league play, and Eastern won the West Division with a 15-1 MAC mark.
Following the EMU game, the Brown and Orange will head to the Windy City for a Jan. 30 date with Chicago State. As was announced when the non-conference schedule was released in July, the game marks the first time in 12 years that the Falcons will play a non-league game during the heart of the MAC schedule.
It's back to cross-divisional play on Feb. 4, when arch-rival Toledo comes to Anderson Arena to begin a two-game homestand. The Falcons also host Ball State (Feb. 7) before heading to Northern Illinois (Feb. 10).
UA comes to BG for a Valentine's Day matchup, before BG embarks upnn a two-game swing to UB (Feb. 17) and KSU (Feb. 20). Ohio will come to town on Feb. 24, and the Falcons will host Miami on Feb. 28, in a "Senior Night" contest. BGSU's stellar senior class includes Amber Flynn, Julie Gompers, Liz Honegger, Carin Horne, Ali Mann and Megan Thorburn.
The MAC schedule comes after arguably the toughest non-conference slate in school history. The non-league schedule features six games against opponents that advanced to national postseason play last year, as well as two extended trips to exotic locales (Orlando, Fla., and Cancun, Mexico).
All five of BGSU's home non-conference games will be against opponents that won 20 games and/or advanced to a national tournament last season. Teams on the non-league docket include Duke, Notre Dame, Oakland and Temple, all of whom advanced to the 2006 NCAA Championships. Delaware and Indiana, a pair of '06 WNIT participants, also appear on BG's schedule, which Miller hopes will adequately prepare the Falcons for MAC action.
Following the MAC slate, the top-four teams in the final regular-season standings will earn first-round byes for the MAC Tournament. For the first time in history, all 12 teams will advance to Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena for the tournament. The opening round is scheduled for Sunday, March 4, with the quarterfinals taking place two days later (Tuesday, March 6). The four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinal round on Friday, March 9, and the championship game is the next day, Saturday, March 10.
The Falcons are coming off a 28-3 season, in which Miller and company won both the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles for the second year in a row. BGSU set school and conference records for overall victories, and became just the fifth team in conference history to go undefeated in league play, with that 16-0 MAC mark.
