MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - In their first road match, the Bowling Green Falcons (1-2-0, 0-0-0) dropped a 2-0 decision to the host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (2-1-0) in the Coastal Carolina Invitational Tournament.
Coastal Carolina took the lead late in the first half as Mkheli Dube scored his first of two goals. The strike came from 22-yards out and landed in the top corner of the goal structure.
"They had the better of us in the first half," said head coach Fred Thompson. "But even then it took a fantastic goal to take the lead."
Dube then solidified the win with a goal at the 87:05 mark after a questionable series of events in which Justin Kim was taken down hard in the box and was not granted a penalty kick.
"We had them on their heals for a very long time and we played well during the second half. Both programs were dueling to take the momentum advantage," said Thompson.
Despite his two goals against, keeper Paul Shoemaker made four saves on six shots on goal.
"The field played great, and the atmosphere under the lights made the game very entertaining to watch," said Thompson.
The Falcons will return to the field on Sunday night against Furman (1-2-0) in their second match of the Coastal Carolina Invitational Tournament. The match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Furman will also be recovering from a first round loss to the University of Richmond, 2-1.
Although the team is miles away from campus, they have made special arrangements to watch the football home opener and support their fellow Falcons during their team meal on Saturday night.
