MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - Junior twin's Ryan and Alec Perea connected early to help the Falcons (1-3-0) jump out to a 1-0 lead over the Paladins of Furman University (2-2-0) but were defeated 2-1 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational Tournament.
Goal keeper Paul Shoemaker was tested quickly as Furman's Shea Salinas struck in the sixth minute of the match, but was stopped by the sophomore. The Orange and Brown quickly recovered and found their offensive stride as George Davis placed the first BGSU shot on goal of the match a minute later.
BGSU's next shot was once again prefaced as Shoemaker rejected Salinas' attempt to score. In the 18th minute, Alec Perea found his brother for their first collegiate connection and Ryan's first goal of the season.
Furman evened the score as Rob Victor's header found its way past Shoemaker at the 41:01 mark.
The match remained in the deadlock at 1-1 until Furman's Chris Davis' header delivered the deciding score.
The Falcons offense created two corner kicks in the following two minutes that set-up freshman Tyler Deal's attempt to even the score but was block by the Furman defense. Alec Perea also attempted to score but the kick flew wide past the net.
In the 77th minute, Shoemaker faced the last Paladin shot of the match and registered his third save on the day.
Bowling Green out shot the Paladins 10-8 with four on goal.
The Falcons will remain on the road next weekend when they travel across the country to battle St. Mary's and Sacramento State in California. BGSU will take part in their third and last Friday-Sunday invitational tournament.
