CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Falcons were unable to tarnish the University of Cincinnati's perfect record in their home stadium (Gettler Stadium) and fell to the host squad, 3-0 Wednesday night. BGSU is 3-7-2 after twelve matches while UC sits even at 5-5-1.
The Bearcats found their kicks late in the second half of the match beginning at the 65:55 mark as Kieron Gradwell capped Lionel Jackson's corner kick with the score. UC slid an additional two past red-shirt junior goal keeper Brent Petkus in the 79th and 84th minutes of the match.
In five home matches, UC has outscored their opponents 14-1.
Petkus made his first save of the match in the 11th minute and went on to stop an additional five Bearcat scoring attempts. He has earned two consecutive starts and is 0-1-1 in 2007.
Sophomore Tyler Deal fired the first shot of the match (9:12) after classmate Hunter Van Houten set the BGSU offense in motion on the corner kick, but was unsuccessful in his challenge with UC keeper Miquel Rosales. BGSU earned one additional corner in the half and subsequently the match itself.
Of the Falcons three additional shots in the first half, each was targeted as a prospective goal, but instead resulted as Rosales' saves. BGSU doubled their shot production in the second half, but struck just a pair of potential scores.
Gavin Dozier led the Orange and Brown with three shots in the match; two of which forced Rosales to take action in the net.
The Falcons must now look to Sunday, Oct. 14, as they face their second league test and first home MAC foe, Hartwick. The Hawks are playing in their inaugural Mid-American Conference season and are 0-1-0 in the MAC after dropping a contest to Akron last week.
