BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams hosted the annual Falcon Invitational Saturday morning at Forrest Creason Golf Course on the BGSU campus. The Falcon women, ranked 15th in the latest Division I Great Lakes Regional poll, would finish third overall (107 points) in the event, while the Falcon men finished ninth (218 points), as sophomore Eddie Kipchoge (Eldoret, Kenya) earned his second win of the 2007 fall season, running his second-fastest collegiate time at 24:41.64.
For Kipchoge, it was his second-straight individual win at the Falcon Invite and sixth of his BG career. He would earn first-place by just over 18 seconds ahead Lansing Community College's Rex Kiptuli (25:00.08), who took home second. Earning top team honors on the men's side on the 8,000-meter course was Kent State University with a score of 32, ahead of Lansing CC with 67.
The second top-finishing Falcon for the men's team was freshman Chris Moody (Davidsonville, Md.), who ran a new personal-best time of 26:46.79 to finish in the 42nd position. Other Falcons finishing in the top 100 would be freshman Johnstone Kirui (Eldoret, Kenay) who finished 68th, senior Curtis Farnsel (Metamora, Ohio) who finished 81st, senior Brad Wells (Portage, Ohio) who came across the tape in the 84th position and senior Kevin Kauglin (Oregon, Ohio) who finished 85th.
On the women's side, the Falcons freshmen duo of Ashley Fischer (Fremont, Ohio) and Barbara Powers (Bowling Green, Ohio) would once again pace the orange and brown as they finished 14th and 15th respectively with times of 18:25.64 and 18:28.61. Sophomore Carly Bates (Palatine, Ill.) then finished just two back in the 17th position with her second-best personal time of 18:31.72, as the Falcons had seven runners finish in the top 50 and 13 in the top 100.
Also finishing in the top 50 for the Falcons were junior Kara Butler (Okemos, Mich.) who finished in the 31st position, senior Lyndi Springer (Celina, Ohio) who took home the 42nd slot with a time of 19:16.42, freshman Megan Kelsey (Kettering, Ohio) who finished 46th at 19:17.83 and junior Kylie Korsnack (Bowling Green, Ohio) who finished 50th overall, as she crossed the line in 19:21/84.
Earning top individual honors in the women's 5, 000-meter race was Miami University's Laura Neufarth, who ran a time of 17:37.97. The RedHawks then took the top team honors as well, as their score of 65 just beat out the University of Toledo, who finished second with a score of 69.
Other Falcons finishing in the top 75 for the women were freshman Heather Conger (Euclid, Ohio) who finished 52nd, senior Stephanie Hillman (Westerville, Ohio) who finished 61st, sophomore Chelsey Woods (Springfield, Ohio), who crossed in the 62nd position and Courtney Krummert, who came across the tape in the 75th position with a time of 19:55.19.
The two squads will return to action in two weeks (Oct. 27) when they take part at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Central Michigan University. The event in Mount Pleasant, Mich. will kick-off at 11 a.m.
