No team scores were kept at the eight-team tourney, which was hosted by Cincinnati. In addition to the Falcons and the host Bearcats, other schools in the tourney field included Akron, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Miami and Xavier.
The Falcons posted an overall record of 14-9 in singles play in the tournament, and BGSU doubles teams combined to go 7-4 on the weekend.
Kintzel lost a total of just three games over her final three matches en route to her title, which came at the fourth singles flight.
In doubles play, Kintzel teamed with freshman Christine Chiricosta to win the consolation bracket at flight number one. That duo lost their opening match, but bounced back for a pair of wins in the back draw.
In singles, Chiricosta advanced to the championship match at the 16-player top flight, before losing to Miami's Anastasia Dracheva. That loss was the first singles setback of Chiricosta's career, after a 6-0 start.
Senior Andrea Volle posted a 2-1 singles record at the second flight, advancing to the semifinal round, while sophomore Katia Babina did the same, winning her first two flight-two matches before falling in the semis.
Junior Stefanie Menoff and senior Jenna Nussbaum both won their first-round matches at the third singles flight, before losing in the second round. Juniors Kelsey Jakupcin (first flight) and Libby Harrison (fourth flight) rounded out the Falcons' singles competitors.
In doubles play, three of BGSU's four teams posted 2-1 records, including the Chiricosta/Kintzel duo at the top flight. Jakupcin and Nussbaum also competed at flight numero uno, winning a pair of contests before losing in the third round.
The Volle/Harrison tandem began second-flight doubles play with a pair of wins before falling, while BGSU's other flight-two team, Babina and Menoff, split their two matches on the weekend.
The Falcons now prepare for the final competitions of the fall season. Selected members of the team will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships from Oct. 18-23. The remaining members of the Falcons will be in Muncie, Ind., for that weekend's Ball State Fall Invitational.
