CINCINNATI, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - QUOTING HEAD COACH Louis Orr
You jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first few minutes today. Do you think your team came out a little more fired up than they did?
"Well, we always play to win, and we've got to believe in ourselves. Our guys were prepared, our coaches did a great job of scouting and preparation, and this was a great team victory. We played with a lot of poise. Everyone stepped up and made plays.
"I thought Ryne Hamblet was excellent as a leader for us today. Chris Knight gave us a big boost, and I thought Brian Moten gave us a big lift off the bench. That (Belmont) is a very good team, an NCAA Tournament team, that we beat today. That really should show our guys what we are capable of doing."
You mentioned the poise of your team. They started to pressure you at times, but your team never let the lead get under double digits. BGSU didn't seem to flinch when Belmont made a few runs.
"They (BG players) did a good job of trusting the game plan, and the defense was outstanding today. We were concerned about their three-point shooting. They were 12-of-30 (last night vs. Cincinnati) -- this game, they were 6-of-26 -- we defended the three very well -- and they shot 34 percent overall for the game. That's where it begins and ends.
"And then, we shot 50 percent, and did a good job of playing inside-out. When you do that, you give yourself a great chance to win."
You also got good production down low from Otis Polk and Marc Larson. They each seemed to play well at both ends of the floor.
"Yes, they both have been very productive, and are a great tandem there. And, Chris Knight gives us versatility up front, and we can move Nate (Miller) up front as well. Those guys (Larson and Polk) are young, but they are eager, they are great students and I'm glad that they are with us."
