CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University men's basketball standout Chris Knight has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Nov. 12). Knight earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
Knight, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Withrow HS/The Patterson School [N.C.]), averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game in his first-ever collegiate action. He was named the MVP of the Peggy Cronin Classic in his hometown as the Falcons went 2-1 at the tournament, hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
Knight led the Falcons in scoring in all three games, and had a double-double in his first collegiate contest, with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a narrow 63-60 loss to Western Carolina on Friday night (Nov. 9). He also had two assists and a pair of blocked shots in a team-high 35 minutes vs. the Catamounts.
On Saturday (Nov. 10), Knight had the first 20-point game of his career, with 20 points, three boards, three assists and a pair of steals as the Falcons led from wire-to-wire in a 78-67 victory over Belmont, a 2007 NCAA Tournament team.
Knight capped the weekend in his hometown with a 24-point, eight-rebound performance in a 69-67 win over host Cincinnati. Knight made 10 of his 16 shots from the field, including a 2-for-3 performance from three-point range in the win.
Knight earned the MAC's weekly honor for the East Division. Western Michigan's Derek Drews was named the league's P-O-W for the West Division in the season's opening week.
Knight and the Falcons now prepare for the home opener, as BGSU will host Morehead State on Saturday (Nov. 17). Tipoff time is 4:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena.
