A few notes following the Falcons 31-17 win over Buffalo at UB Stadium in Buffalo, New York. With the victory the Falcons move to 7-4 overall, 5-2 in Mid-American Conference play, and 4-2 in the East Division.
• BGSU is now 4-1 all-time versus the Bulls, including 4-0 in the last four contests.
• The Falcons have won their third straight contest, their first three-game winning streak since 2005.
• Bowling Green drove right down the field on their opening drive to take a 7-0 lead. Tyler Sheehan was 4-of-5 for 43 yards, while Anthony Turner had three carries for 18 yards, including his team-leading eighth rushing touchdown on the year. Not once did the Falcons face a third down.
• Freddie Barnes caught a 44-yard touchdown on the Falcons' second touchdown afternoon. The reception was Barnes' career long, as well as his eighth TD of the season.
• Following the Barnes TD reception the Falcon defense forced a UB punt. Three plays later Sheehan and Chris Wright hooked up for an 83 yard touchdown. The touchdown was Sheehan's career long pass, Wright's longest reception of his career and the Falcons longest offensive play from scrimmage this season.
• The 83-yard Wright touchdown is the fifth longest touchdown reception in school history.
• Barnes had his second 100-yard receiving game of the season. He finished with 10 catches for 113 yards. His other 100-plus game came at Boston College when he had eight receptions for 112 yards. Barnes' 10 catches and 113 yards are both new career-bests.
• Junior kicker Sinisa Vrvilo connected on a 40 yard field goal in the second quarter. He is now 15-of-19 on the year on field goal attempts.
• Sheehan finished the first half with 206 yards passing, completing 14-of-18 passes for two touchdowns.
• Michael Ream made his first start and recorded his first sack of the 2007 season. He finished with 1.5 sacks on the day.
• On the Falcons' opening drive of the second half Sheehan handed the ball off to Anthony Turner, who then threw the ball back to Sheehan for a 25-yard touchdown reception. It was Turner's second passing touchdown of the season, and Sheehan's second touchdown reception on the year.
• With Buffalo looking to cut into the Falcons 31-17 lead late in the third quarter the Bulls had a first-and-goal from the BGSU 6-yard line. Key tackles by Jahmal Brown (first down), Loren Hargrove and Erique Dozier (second down) and Glen Stanley (fourth down) preserved the two touchdown advantage.
• The 31 points gives the Falcons three straight games and four of their last five with 30-plus points in a contest.
• Sheehan finished the victory going 20-of-29 passing for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Following those numbers Sheehan moved up several single season BGSU passing records. He now has 20 passing touchdowns, sixth-best in school history. He also ranks in pass completions (269, 4th), yards passing (2,898, 5th) and passing attempts (423, 4th).
