THE GAME
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, winners of 16-straight games, has a four-game lead in the Mid-American Conference's East Division with four regular-season games remaining ... the first of those four contests comes Saturday (Feb. 17), as the Falcons of head coach Curt Miller (23-2, 12-0 MAC) head to New York to face the University at Buffalo ... tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena (6,100) ... BGSU is currently ranked 17th in the nation in the USA Today/ESPN poll and 18th by the Associated Press.
MAGIC NUMBER IS ONE
The Falcons, as mentioned, hold a four-game lead in the MAC's East Division race with four regular-season games remaining ... one BGSU win, or one loss by second-place Kent State, would give the Brown and Orange the outright East Division title for the second consecutive year ... BG is looking for a third-straight division crown, having won the West Division in 2004-05 before being moved back to the East prior to last season.
FALCONS HAVE CLINCHED A BYE
BGSU's 91-46 win over Akron Wednesday night (Feb. 14), coupled with KSU's loss to Ohio, clinched a first-round bye for the Falcons for the MAC Tournament ... the entire tournament will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland this year ... the top-two teams in each division earn a bye, and the Falcons have clinched one of those byes, with a five-game lead over third-place OU in the East ... should the Falcons win the division, the team would play the 5:00 p.m. game (third game of the day) in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, March 6 ... a second-place divisional finish would put the Brown and Orange in the 3:00 p.m. game that afternoon ... either way, the Falcons will face the winner of one of the March 4 first-round games ... if the season ended today (prior to the Feb. 17 games), the Falcons -- as the number-one seed in the East -- would face the winner of the Buffalo (5 East) vs. Toledo (4 West) game ... obviously, however, with one-fourth of the MAC regular-season slate yet to be played, those matchups are certainly not set in stone.
