BUFFALO, N.Y. (BGSUFalcons.com) -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"That's a big win for us, obviously. It clinches the MAC East Division, for our third-straight division championship, so we are very excited about that. We accomplished a lot of goals. The first half was very important to us; I believe Buffalo has led five out of the last six games at halftime, and we talked about how important it was to have a good first half, get them on their heels and take away some of their confidence. Mission accomplished with that 20-point lead at halftime, and I thought that really set the tone for the rest of the game."
(How were you able to take Heather Turner out of the game?)
"One of the things that happened was that we got the tempo up. When we got a lead, it forced Buffalo to maybe play a little faster than they want. They can't be as patient to pound the ball to Turner. So, a big game plan was to get a lead and get the tempo up, and maybe get them away from Turner. It is kind of like a good running team in football. If they fall behind, they may have to throw the ball more than they run. That's what we equated it to."
"It was the second time this year that we did a great job of defending (Rachelle) Matthys and (Stephanie) Bennett. We only gave up one 3, between the two of them, the first time we played, and we only gave up one 3 again tonight between the two. And, that's a big key; they are both tremendous shooters."
(On the Falcons' 37-7 advantage in points off turnovers)
"Buffalo had a good first-half field-goal percentage. But, fortunately for us, we created some turnovers and got points off those turnovers. (UB's Jamie) Schiebner had a great game and kept them in it, and I don't think they would be disappointed at all with the way they shot the ball in the first half. But, a big statistic tonight was points off turnovers, and we clearly dominated that area."
(Did you try to go with the hot hand offensively?)
"We preached, multiple times in multiple huddles, to take what they're giving you. Stay aggressive, make the extra pass and just take what they are giving you. In some stretches, it was one person; in some stretches, it was another. It wasn't necessarily the play calls tonight. The kids played within themselves, and we are in a stretch in which we have been very efficient with our shooting. I didn't feel like we had very many poor shots or forced shots tonight, and that's really important for this group. When we take on-balance, good shots, we are shooting a high percentage."
(On Lindsey Goldsberry)
"She just had her hands all over this game, getting deflections and playing hard. We put her on different people; she had to be a pest on Matthys for a while, and then she had to guard Schiebner when they put Schiebner at the 3. That was a tough matchup for us tonight, but Lindsey just provides that energy. She is active, and always gets her hands in the passing lanes. We had 12 steals tonight, and she had half of them, which was big."
