Falcons Fly Past Toledo, Fall to Central

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Falcons beat local rivals Toledo in a three-way meet but fell to Central Michigan late Friday night. The Falcons walked away with a score of 109.5 while the Chippewas scored 147 and the Rockets 58.5.
There were several first place finished for the Flacons including Nicole Standback, Jessica White, Jamie Roflow and Yemoja Marotta. Standback won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.82 seconds. Jessica White doubled up to win the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.63 seconds and the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.15, her best of the season so far. Roflow blew the competition away in the 3,000-meter run, beating her competition by more than 23 seconds in a time of 9:58.48. Yemoja Marotta ran the 600-meters beating out a teammate for the title in a time of 1:37.24.
Those were the winners but the Falcons didn't score 109.5 points with just four individuals. Red-shirt freshman Crystal Burage finished third for the team in the 200-meters with a collegiate best time of 25.91 seconds. Ashley Spates and Hillary Hewitt went 3-4 in the 400-meters with time of 1:01.04 and 1:02.33, respectively. Settle fought it out in the mile run and finished second in a time of 5:11.04. Kara Butler and Stephanie Hillman joined her in the same event and went 4-5 with times of 5:21.51 and 5:30.02, respectively. Marotta may have won the 600-meters but she had teammate Danielle Thornton on her back the entire race. Thornton crossed the line in a time of 1:38.09. Erica Wilson finished third in the high jump, jumping 5-04.25. She also finished third in the triple jump with a personal best of 36-10.50. For the throws, it was Takarra Dunning and Lauren Bryant who scored the points for the team. Dunning finished second in both the shot put (45-10.75) and the weight throw (47-10.75). Bryant went third in the shot (42-07.00 PR) and fourth in the weight throw (46-10.25).
The Falcons will travel to Findlay Friday to compete in day one of the All-Ohio Championships and then stay home for day two as Bowling Green will host the main competition at Perry Field House this Saturday.
