Falcons Take MAC Win Streak on the Road

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will take to the road for their final Mid-American Conference away meet on Sunday, Feb. 11. The meet will be against Central Michigan and start at 2:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will look to continue their winning streak of three MAC wins.
Last Weeks Win
Last Saturday (Feb. 3) the Falcons defeated Ball State at home 191.425-188.925. It was a day of high scores, as the team posted its highest team score on the season. They also scored their highest team scores on beam (47.600) and floor (48.250). However, it was the standout performance of senior Bethany Kenel that really sparked the team. Kenel set a new career best on beam landing a 9.850, winning her the event and placing her tied for eight in all time beam scores.
Junior Jacque Bernhardt also set a new career best on vault with her score of 9.825 and a second place finish. She was followed closely by Ashlee deLeeuw, who finished third with a 9.775 and a new personal best. DeLeeuw also had a top performance on bars as she placed first with her 9.700. Senior co-captain Allison Swafford won the crowd and judges over with her routine on floor, scoring her a 9.750 and a first place finish. Placing behind her were freshman Rachel Gourley (9.675) and Megan Chronister (9.650).
Scouting the Chippewas
Coming off a third place finish at the State of Michigan Classic, Central Michigan put up a team score of 193.475. They also set a season best on both the vault (48.425) and floor (48.550). Sheena Smith led the team on vault with a 9.800. Katie Simon posted a career high on floor, flipping to a 9.825. On bars Vanessa Rodriguez had a strong effort and landed a 9.750.
Last year the Falcons defeated CMU at home 189.325-187.950. Overall, the Chippewas lead the series 12-20.
What's Next
After their meet in Central Michigan the Orange and Brown will return home to host conference leaders Kent State University on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. The meet will be held inside the Eppler Complex. After competing against KSU, the Falcons will take to the road to compete in the CAT Classic at Missouri University. That meet will be on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24) beginning at 7:00 p.m.
