BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons and Western Michgian exchanged runs throughout most of the game until a five-run outburst for BGSU in the eighth inning proved to be too much for the Broncos in a 9-5 victory for the Brown and Orange.
Junior Dan Horvath continued the Falcons stellar stints by starting pitchers over the weekend by allowing just two runs in six innings of work. Horvath earned his second win of the season.
Freshman Logan Meisler made his ninth collegiate start and contributed two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. The Port Clinton, Ohio native's first score came in the opening inning after he drew a walk to begin the contest. A Brian Hangbers' single advanced Meisler to third and put men at the corners for Sophomore Marty Baird. Baird stepped into the box and connected on an RBI-double into center field, handing the Falcons an early one-run advantage.
Bowling Green scored a lone in the third, fourth and fifth innings. However, a trio of single-run innings by the Broncos as well kept the Falcons edge to just one run after seven innings.
The Falcon lineup blew things wide open in the eight frame, beginning with an infield single by Senior Jeff Telmanik. A walk combined with a sacrifice bunt pushed Telmanik over to third. Meisler did the rest, hitting an RBI-single for the Falcons first of five runs in the inning. Hangbers executed a sacrifice fly later in the inning, followed up by a two-RBI double by Baird to cap off the BGSU explosion.
Western Michigan attempted a comeback in the home-half of the inning, scoring two runs before the Falcon bullpen halted the Bronco rally. Senior Adam Gumpf entered in the eighth to stop the comeback before sealing the win with a "1-2-3" ninth inning, including two strikeouts.
BGSU will host IPFW Tuesday, April 3rd at Warren Steller Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM. It will be the first contest of a six-day stretch that sees the Falcons play five home games in six days. Bowling Green welcomes Xavier to "the Stell" Wednesday afternoon in addition to playing Central Michigan in a three-game series over the weekend.
