BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sophomore pitcher Hayley Wiemer will be featured on the Andrew Z in the Morning Show on 92.5 KISS FM on Friday, April 13 to commemorate opening day for the Toledo Mud Hens.
Wiemer, a Sylvania native, will participate in an on-air activity during the time window of 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., where she will be pitching LIVE at select KISS interns and morning show staff. Just to make the stunt a bit more interesting, her targets will be outfitted in layers of bubble wrap.
"I've listened to 92.5 KISS FM since high school so it is really neat to be a part of this," said Wiemer. "Honestly, when Coach Salsburg was explaining all of this to me, I thought she was kidding. This sounds like a lot of fun and for 92.5 KISS FM to want to be involved with BGSU Softball is just awesome!"
From what we understand, the interns will not be afforded a bat to swing against Wiemer's tosses. If her 1.93 ERA and 65 strikeouts are any indication of the intern's imminent future, they might be in for a bit of a sore weekend. They will be amongst an elite group seeing as the right-handed pitcher has hit only three batters in 298 batters faced while in the circle.
"I guess an intern wrapped in bubble wrap is the most interesting batter I have ever faced. Hopefully, they will have plenty of bubble wrap," said Wiemer.
"I am glad I am the one doing the pitching and not the intern!" Not that Wiemer should have any fears from the plate.
Currently, she leads the Mid-American Conference with a .440 BA and a high 25 runs batted in.
The broadcast is taking place at Fricker's in downtown Toledo, located adjacent to Fifth Third Field and will also feature the BGSU cheerleaders and several trumpeters from the band. The cheerleaders will perform a live on-air cheer celebrating 92.5 KISS FM, the Andrew Z in the Morning Show and opening day for the Toledo Mud Hens.
