The Bowling Green State University women's golf squad will travel to Nashport, Ohio for the 2007 Mid-American Championships this weekend (Apr. 27-29). The 72-hole event will take place at Longaberger Golf Club for the first time in MAC history.

The eight MAC institutions that sponsor women's golf, Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Northern Illinois University, Ohio University, the University of Toledo and Western Michigan University will descend on the area for a practice round, April 26, before beginning play at 8 a.m., April 27.

The move to Longaberger Golf Club marks the first time in the nine-year history of the event that the MAC Championship will have moved from the southwest Ohio region. In 1999 the league title was handed out at The Golf Center at Kings Island before moving to Walden Ponds Golf Club in Hamilton, Ohio from 2000 until 2006.

In a survey of America's public golf courses (May 2004), Golf Digest named Longaberger Golf Club one of 16 five-star courses and listed the club among the top 10 of all courses opened within the past five years as well as one of the Top 10 in service. The course also was named America's Best New Upscale Public Course of 2000 by Golf Digest. Longaberger Golf Club is located about 45 miles east of Columbus off St. Rt. 16, north of the intersection with St. Rt. 146 in eastern Licking County.

Notes on the Falcons:
The Orange and Brown are coming off a seventh-place finish at the 2007 Falcon Invitational, in an event that hosted four Mid-American Conference schools. On the final day of competition the Falcons shot a 317, second-best among the 11-team field.

A month prior, the Falcons as a team, carded a 54-hole score of 937, a new school record. The previous mark of 938 was set back in 1984.

Not only are they succeeding on the course, they are also blowing teams away in the classroom. Last Saturday (Apr. 21), BGSU held their annual student-athlete banquet, with several awards being handed out. The women's golf team captured the highest team GPA (3.56) among teams with fewer than 20 participants. Every member of the golf team has at least a 3.24 GPA.

Junior Carley Hrusovsky

Individually the Falcons are led by a senior and four juniors. At the top of that list is junior Carley Hrusovsky. On the year she averaged 81.00 in 16 rounds. In back-to-back weeks earlier this season she finished sixth at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational (78-80) and fifth at the EKU Colonel Classic (79-81-82). Overall she ranks 23rd in the MAC with the 81.00 average and finished 21st at last year's MAC Championships (87-73-80-75--315).

Junior Jessica McCann

Just behind Hrusovsky is fellow junior Jessica McCann. The Mason, Ohio native had her best MAC performance last season, finishing in a tie for 26th (75-83-81-79--318). This season she ranks 25th in the conference with an 81.11 average, with her best performance coming at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational where she earned medalist honors with a 147 (73-74). She earned MAC Player of the Week honors for her efforts that week.

Junior Lindsey Jonkhoff

Junior Lindsey Jonkhoff is third on the team with an 82.00 stroke average through 18 rounds this season. The Traverse City, Michigan native will be competing in her first ever MAC Championships. She finished fifth at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational (77-79) and 10th at the Laker Fall Classic (79-77) earlier this season. In her final tune-up of the spring season she carded a 24th-place finish through the wind and rain at the Falcon Invitational, finishing with a 79 on the final day.

Junior Amanda Bader

Junior Amanda Bader is fourth on the team with an 82.17 average. She had her career-best MAC performance last season, firing an 82-83-82-84--331, finishing 39th. The Lima, Ohio native had a breakout fall campaign, carding four straight top-20 finishes earlier this season. She finished 14th at the Cardinal Classic (76-79), 19th at the YSU/Taco Bell Invitational (86-80), 12th at the EKU Classic (78-85-84) and 13th at the weather-shortened Cincinnati Fall Classic (79).

Senior Kari Liggett

The fifth and final Falcon competing this weekend will be senior co-captain Kari Liggett. The Brighton, Mich. native is currently averaging 83.61 strokes per round this season. Her top performance came at the EKU Classic where she finished fourth with a 54-hole score of 240 (82-80-78). Last season at MAC's she closed with back-to-back 77's for her career-best score both days.
