BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Haleigh Bielstein signed a National Letter of Intent as a commitment to attend Bowling Green State University and will play softball under head coach Shannon Salsburg beginning in the 2007-08 season. Bielstein, an Inez, Texas native, will graduate from Industrial High School in May.
"I am very excited to add Haleigh to our incoming class," said Salsburg.
Bielstein is a .423 career hitter and has amassed career stats of .716 and .488 in slugging and on base percentages, respectively.
"She is an outstanding ballplayer who will add depth to our entire infield, while adding another offensive weapon to our line-up," added Salsburg.
Under head coach Rob Glasscock, Bielstein is a three-time All-District and Offensive MVP selection at the varsity level. She also earned Academic All-District status on three separate occasions and is currently ranked 12th in her class of ninety students. Additionally, she is a member of the National Honors Society.
Currently the right-hander is a member of the Texas Storm 18 Gold travel squad where she plays the third base and middle infield positions. Under head coach Larry Durham, the Texas Storm 18 Gold participated in the "Rising Stars Showcase" (Plantation, Fla.), "Batbuster's Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament" (Orange County, Calif.), "Ronald McDonald Benefit Tournament" (Houston, Texas), "Team New Jersey Invitational Showcase", "Louisville Slugger Independence Day Tourney" (Boulder, Colo.) and the ASA Gold Sector and Regional National Qualifiers.
Since 2002, the Texas Storm 18 Gold has produced 39 collegiate softball players. Seven of this year's alumnae will attend Division I schools to compete at the collegiate level next season.
