BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The men's soccer Falcons were once again recognized as the Bowling Green "large" team with the most improved GPA by the BGSU Student-Athlete Services Department. The team increased their overall GPA from 2.70 to 2.79 over the course of one year.
"Large" is defined as a team with 20 or more participants.
"This type of recognition is not easy to accomplish in consecutive years and I am proud of the player's continued commitment to success in the classroom," said head coach Fred Thompson. "I look forward to the possibility of a three-peat."
Recently, rising sophomore Jacob Lawrence was also honored for his academic excellence at the team's annual end-of-season banquet. Lawrence was presented with the Dr. Lee and Marge Meserve Academic Award as the Falcon with the highest GPA on the team. After one full semester, Lawrence maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA as a Film and Production major.
At the end of the 2007 season, both rising junior Kyle McNayr and rising senior Ryan Perea earned Academic All-MAC mentions. McNayr is a computer science major while Perea studies Sport Management. The conference awards list, which is voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from member institutions, is comprised annually of those student-athletes who have excelled on the field and have earned at least a 3.20 GPA. First-year and transfer student-athletes are not eligible for the award.
