BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but everything seemed to go down hill from there as the Brown and Orange suffered a 14-3 loss to Buffalo Sunday afternoon.
With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Senior Jeff Telmanik recorded a single into right field that bounced pass the Buffalo fielder for a two-base error that allowed Telmanik to reach third base. Sophomore Ryan Shay followed with a groundball to score Telmanik. Senior Kurt Wells powered a pitch through the left side of the infield later in the inning to score a runner from third, giving the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.
Unfortunately, it was all Bulls after that as mentioned above. UB scored a run in the second inning before posting six runs in the third and five runs in the fifth frame.
Sophomore Brian Hangbers pulled a ball into between the first and second base men to reach safely in the home-half of the fifth inning. Two batters later, Sophomore Brandon McFarland hammered a triple into right field that reached the warning track despite 10 mile per hour winds blowing in from straight away center field. Bowling Green's comeback was halted at 12-3, however, as the next Falcon hitter popped up to end the inning. Buffalo added two more scores in the eighth inning to create a 14-3 final.
Bowling Green will hop on the bus for the last time this season for a road this Tuesday, May 15th. The Falcons are scheduled to take on the Oakland Grizzlies at 3 PM.
