Bunko, Butler and Roflow Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - It was announced late Monday afternoon by the Mid-American Conference, that Bowling Green's Andi Bunko, Kara Butler and Jamie Roflow earned Academic All-MAC honors for the outdoor season.
Academic All-MAC is voted on by Faculty Athletic Representatives represented the 12 conference schools and is awarded to a particular number of athletes on the men's and women's side that are in their second year of competition with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and participated in at least half of the season.

Bunko, who recently graduated from the University with a degree in Health Sciences, earns the honor for the third straight outdoor season. She earned the award indoors for the first time in her career this past indoor season. She has been one of the most consistent athletes for the Falcons over the past four seasons. She has placed in every outdoor MAC Championships in the javelin. She finished fifth during the 2004 and 2006 seasons, eighth in 2005 and fourth in 2007. She threw her best throw in over two years this season at the All-Ohio Championships where she won the javelin title, throwing 141-02, nearly reaching the mark for NCAA Regional qualification. This mark put her in third place in the conference before the championship meet. She won the Dick Small Invitational for the second straight year. She finished third at the Brutus Hamilton Invite, going 135-01. She also won the Toledo Invitational. Bunko was also the 2006 Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year at BGSU.

Roflow wins the award for the second year in as many tries. This is also her sixth Academic All-MAC award, as she has won it every cross country and indoor track season that she was eligible to win it. Roflow is one of the top distance runners for the Falcons. She is coming off one of her best indoor seasons ever and brought that momentum outdoors. She currently ranks first in the MAC in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She won the event at the All-Ohio Championships in an NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 10:49.79. She also placed second in the event at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in California. Finished seventh at the Hillsdale College Relays in the 1500-meters going 4:41.69 and was also a part of the 4x800 relay team that finished second. At the MAC Championships, Roflow placed fifth in the steeplechase and claimed the bronze medal in the 5,000-meters. She will compete at the NCAA Regional meet this weekend.

For Butler, it will be her second overall Academic All-MAC nod, as the upcoming junior won the award during the cross country season this past fall. Butler has been a significant force in the long distances for the Falcons this outdoor season. She finished fifth with a time of 39:12.82, and ranked her eighth in the MAC. She finished ninth at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in the 1,500 meter with a time of 5:01.91.
