Track's Andi Bunko Named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - It was announced by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America, that Bowling Green's Andi Bunko was named to the First Team of the ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District. This is the second straight year she's been honored with the award. Last season, she was named second team All-District.
Bunko, who recently finished off her eligibility and graduated from the University with a degree in Health Science, was a four year member and letter winner for the women's track and field team. The London, Ont. Native graduated with a final cumulative GPA of 3.93. She was one of only two MAC athletes (women) to be named first-team and one of eight overall (including second-team).
While at Bowling Green, she earned All-MAC three straight outdoor seasons(2005-2007) as well as one indoor season (2007). She has placed in every outdoor MAC Championships in the javelin. She finished fifth during the 2004 and 2006 seasons, eighth in 2005 and fourth in 2007. She threw her best throw in over two years this season at the All-Ohio Championships where she won (141-02). She won the javelin four times this season. Besides carrying a 3.93 GPA, the graduate was named the 2006 Female Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the 2007 Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Bunko, since being named to First Team All-District will now go onto the national voting for ESPN The Magazine's All-America. She will pursue graduate work this fall at the University of Michigan.
Athletes who have achieved an overall GPA of 3.20 (on a 4.0 scale) and be a true sophomore and complete at least one academic year at their respective institution.
The announcement for Academic All-America will be made at the end of June.
