Unlocking That Cochrane Magic
Bowling Green is 27-11-5 all-time when opening the home season at Mickey
Cochrane Field ... the record translates into a .686 win percentage ... last season's overtime win over Western Illinois was the first opening day win since 2001 when BGSU beat Dayton 3-1 ... in 2003 the Orange and Brown tied Cincinnati to start the home schedule ... in the early 90's (90-96) the Falcons did not lose their first match at Cochrane Field winning every opening day match from 1990-95 and tying their first home match in 1996 ... only one home opener has been canceled - September 23, 2000 vs. Ohio State.

Klancic Scores First Goal as George Mason Hands Men's Soccer Loss
Freshman Matt Klancic scored the lone Falcons' goal as the Orange and Brown
dropped their first match of the season at George Mason University on Friday afternoon ... the goal was the first in Klancic's young career as a Falcon ... George Mason jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and kept the Falcons scoreless through the end of the first half ... the host then slipped another past junior goalkeeper Paul Shoemaker for their third and final score of the game after a little more than an hour of the match had expired (66:36) ... Klancic put the Falcons on the scoreboard after
receiving a serve from Hunter Van Houten toward the later portion of the second half at the 87:36 mark ... the assist was Van Houten's first of the season.
Falcons Lose Heartbreaker At American University
A defensive mistake led to the Falcons scoring in their own net and dropping Sunday afternoon's match at American University, 2-1 ... Gavin Dozier netted his first collegiate goal in the effort ... American's Jon Freimark opened the match with a breakaway goal at the 42:15 mark as American took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at the half ... Dozier, a Columbus native, took the speech to heart and evened the scoreboard at 1-1 with his first goal as a Falcon as the game clock struck 69:12 ... the
red-shirt sophomore used the outside of his right foot to boot one past the American goalkeeper and tangle it in the netting of goal ... the Falcons' defense saw a bit of problems as their shifting speed slowed and after stopping the American scoring threat a misplay of the ball led to the own goal (87:27) and the eventual loss.
Barely Children of the 80's But Still Cracking the Starting Line-Up
Though most of the Falcon's starting line-up may not be old enough to remember the Saturday morning cartoon that inspired this summer's blockbuster movie Transformers they are making an immediate impact for BGSU on the field ... seven underclassmen started both games this weekend with two others making appearances ... r-sophomore Chuko Evawaraye, true sophomores Tyler Deal, Jacob Lawrence and Hunter Van Houten have started all four games for the Falcons to date, while freshmen Thomas McLean and Dusko Topolic have broken the starting line-up on four occasions ... sophomores Gavin Dozier, Cameron Hepple, Ahmad Smith and freshmen Garrett Bireline, Matt Klancic, and Sean Misick also contributed time as reserves ... Evawaraye, McLean, Dozier and Klancic are responsible for 100% of the Falcons scoring in 2007.
Score Often and Score Early ... In Your Career with the Orange and Brown
On September 9, 2007 in Washington, D.C., Matt Klancic became the second Falcon rookie to notch his first goal on the collegiate playing field ... Klancic joined fellow freshman Thomas McLean in the "Young Scorers Club" who stuck his first goal in the second match of the season ... as a result of their first year goals, McLean and Klancic contributed to a group of seven players on the active Falcon roster to net a goal in their first year of eligibility under Thompson ... of those seven (see list below), only sophomore Ahmad Smith netted a quicker goal ... Smith's inaugural goal was
scored in his first match with the team on Aug. 25, 2006 as the Falcons downed Western Illinois 2-1 (OT) at Mickey Cochrane Stadium while McLean's was in his second outing with BGSU ... note: Cameron Hepple scored in his red-shirt freshman season after sitting out his first season with the Falcons ... the Falcons are 3-4 under Thompson if one of his rookies scores their first goal that game.
2007-08 Captains Announced
Senior Abiola Sandy has been elected to captain the 2007-08 men's soccer squad, he will be joined by sophomore Hunter Van Houten and freshman Thomas McLean in the effort ...none of the three have prior seasonal service as a Falcon captain ... as of Sept. 12, between the tri-captains 53 collegiate starts have been made ...in a poll of a dozen NCAA Div. I soccer SID's, McLean is believed to be a rare breed as a rookie captain ... Florida Gulf Coast is the only other known squad that will also see a freshman captain this year ... note: 2007 will be the first season FGCU is fielding a team and
the roster comprised of freshmen and a sophomore.
