BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Each week, Bowling Green State University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher answers a few of the many questions that have been submitted to BGSUFalcons.com. Here is the latest installment ...
Q: We heard that the football locker room was renovated this summer. Can you tell us what changes were made?
Mike in Toledo
A: The biggest change was a significant increase in space - close to doubling the square footage of the locker room. Football's locker room sits under the east grandstand at the north end. Walls to the old training room and coaches' locker area were blown out and became part of the football locker room. Beyond more space, leaks in the ceiling were fixed and the area was completely updated - paint, carpet and lighting. The old wooden lockers were removed and refurbished. The result is terrific and a big thank you goes out to many former football players who made gifts to help make the renovation possible.
Q: I have seen that there are already two high school games planned for The Doyt this season. Is this to test out the new surface and see any possible problems, and are there plans to host high school playoff games in the near future?
Kevin in Bowling Green
A: By now, we have hosted three high school games and look forward to having more played in Perry Stadium in the future. Testing the FieldTurf wasn't an issue, as our football team has practiced on the surface nearly every day. The high school games represent an opportunity for us to create a modest new revenue stream, while helping promote BGSU's campus and athletic facilities. Regarding the high school playoffs, we let the Ohio High School Athletic Association know that we are interested and willing to host games. Our understanding is that sites are selected based on the geography of competing teams.
Q: Does the football team plan on playing any teams from the west coast in the near future? I think matchups with the MWC and WAC could be beneficial for BGSU.
Ryan in Bowling Green
A: Looking west, we have games with Wyoming, Boise State and Idaho in the coming years. From the other two non-BCS conferences (C-USA and Sun Belt), we have future series with Marshall, Troy and Western Kentucky.
