BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University got off to a solid start at the Indiana Doubles Invitational, posting an overall record of 8-4 in Saturday (Jan. 12) matches at the two-day invite.
BGSU's overall record was second-best among the five participating schools, trailing only host Indiana University (10-2). Other schools participating in the weekend invite include Ball State, Indiana State and Louisville.
The invitational was designed to let the coaches experiment with different doubles combinations before the dual-match season begins, and Falcon head coach Penny Dean certainly made the most of the opportunity on Saturday. Dean used no fewer than 11 different doubles combinations in the team's 12 matches, with only one duo (sophomore Libby Harrison and junior Stefanie Menoff) competing together more than once.
Six of the eight Falcons posted winning records, with many of them competing with three different teammates in as many matches. Sophomores Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel each had 3-0 records on Saturday, while Harrison, Menoff, freshman Christine Chiricosta and junior Kelsey Jakupcin all went 2-1.
The invitational concludes on Sunday afternoon.
