BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team has moved up in the regional rankings. The Falcons of head coach Cami Wells are now 10th in the Great Lakes Region, according to the rankings released Monday (Oct. 13) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Falcons broke into the poll two weeks ago at the 13th spot, and remained 13th in last week's poll as well.
BGSU rose three spots after an impressive third-place showing at Friday's (Oct. 10) All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships in Delaware, Ohio. BGSU had the top finish of the five Mid-American Conference teams entered in the race, as Ohio finished fourth, Kent State seventh, Akron eighth and Toledo 12th.
In this week's USTFCCCA poll, the Big Ten Conference has the top-three teams, as Michigan State is first, followed by Michigan and Wisconsin. Notre Dame is ranked fourth, while Miami is fifth and UA sixth.
Additionally, the Falcons are listed 12th in the first Great Lakes Region Women's Power Rankings, released this week. These computerized rankings, compiled by Akron head coach Scott Jones, are based on a virtual regional meet using the season-best performances by the top-seven individuals from each school in the Great Lakes Region.
The power rankings also list the top-25 individuals, and Falcon senior Kara Butler is ranked 16th on that list. Butler paced the Falcons at the All-Ohio meet, finishing fifth with a time of 18:11
Both the BGSU men's and women's teams are preparing for the final home meet of the year, Saturday's (Oct. 18) Falcon Invitational. The meet will be held on the Forrest Creason Golf Course, located just north of Doyt L. Perry Stadium. The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the men's 8K race starting at 11:30 a.m.
Following the Falcon Invitational, the Brown and Orange will prepare for the Mid-American Conference championships, which will take place in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday, Nov. 1.
