Falcon Women Win Big at Falcon Invite

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The women's cross country team made a big stand at home and placed first at the Falcon Invite (Oct. 18). The women beat out Mid-American Conference rival Toledo, placing second overall and University at Buffalo, placing third. The BGSU men's team walked away with an eighth place finish.
The women made great individual efforts, including four top-10 finishes, to win their last event at home. Senior Kara Butler led the team placing first with a time of 21:41. Senior Jamie Roflow placed second crossing the finish line 14 seconds behind Butler. Junior Carly Wells, was the next Falcon to finish placing fourth with a time of 22:22. Senior Kylie Korsnack was the final Falcon in the top-10 placing 10th in 22:43. Andrea Pereira de Almeida finished two seconds after Korsnack placing 11th.
"This was a breakthrough race again for Andrea Pereira de Almeida," said head coach Cami Wells. "Last week was her first time running in the top eight and she was our fifth runner today. This was a huge accomplishment for her."
Three other runners for the women placed in the top-20 including senior Lyndi Springer, 14th (22:58), sophomore Ashley Fischer, 16th (23:03) and sophomore Heather Conger, 18th (23:11).
The men had another excellent effort by sophomore Christopher Moody placing 11th with a time of 25:31 tying his current season best time. Five other runners for the men tied their season best times including sophomore Johnstone Kirui, 39th (26:36), sophomore John Bernard, 61st (27:44), sophomore Jeff Ehler 67th (27:56), freshman Ben Leininger, 74th (28:21) and freshman Peter Miles, 81st (28:37).
"We had a lot of people run their personal best times.," said Wells. "They are working better as a team but we still have a lot of areas we need to work on. They are a young team that's working on progress and consistency."
The Falcon cross country teams next meet will be at the MAC Championships, Nov. 1, at Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, Mich.
