The Bowling Green State University baseball team and coaching staff will be holding a Winter Baseball Camp for players between the ages of 12 and 18. The camp is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 between noon and 4 p.m.
The camp, which will be held at Perry Field House across from the baseball field on the BGSU campus, will include instruction in all parts of the game, including pitching, catching, infield and outfield play, and hitting. Instruction will be done by the BGSU baseball staff - head coach Danny Schmitz, assistant coaches Rick Blanc, Spencer Schmitz and Luke Harrigan - along with the members of the 2009 squad.
The deadline for registration is Jan. 19, 2009. The cost of the camp is $75.
For more information or to download a registration form go to the BGSU athletic web site (www.bgsufalcons.com) and click on baseball. A person can also call the BGSU baseball office at (419) 372-7065.
The BGSU head coach enters his 19th season needing just 11 victories to reach the 500-win milestone, a plateau no other coach in school history has reached. Schmitz, who as a player helped Eastern Michigan to two College World Series berths, played eight years of professional baseball before spending two years as a manager on the professional level. This season will be his 22nd season of coaching on the collegiate level.
During Schmitz's tenure, he has produced 25 players who have been drafted or signed a professional contract. The two-time MAC Coach of the Year has also produced six Mid-American Conference championship teams and 11 players who have earned All-American honors, including two Academic All-Americans. BG players have earned All-MAC honors 50 times during the tenure of Schmitz.
