BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team finishes 15th at the Great Lakes Regional meet, hosted by Purdue on Nov. 15. The women were the fourth Mid-American Conference team to finish the race.
Senior Kara Butler continued her consistency as the lead runner for the Falcons finishing 70th with a time of 22:48. Junior Carly Wells trailed 12 seconds behind Butler for the 82nd position. Following Wells was senior Jamie Roflow with a time of 23:05 placing 90th. Senior Kylie Korsnack was the fourth runner to cross the finish line with a time of 23:31 placing 118th. Korsnack was followed by junior Andrea Pereira de Almeida finishing 135th with a time of 23:46. Seven seconds later, senior Lyndi Woods finished in 140th place. Sophomore Ashley Fischer finished the race strong for the Falcons with a time of 24:14 placing 158th.
"The course was very muddy so footing was difficult throughout and they also had very gusty cold conditions on race day so the times were considerably slower due to the conditions," said head coach Cami Wells.
The women finished fourth in the MAC behind Miami, Akron, and Ohio. The women did beat out the six remaining MAC schools including Kent State, Toledo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Ball State.
"We were hoping for a higher team finish but were happy to finish 4th among the MAC schools and improve upon our place from last year's regional meet," said Wells.
The first five finishers in the race were senior Nicole Bush (Michigan State), senior Nicole Edwards (Michigan), senior Gwen Jorgensen (Wisconsin), junior Wendy Robinson (Indiana) and junior Kari Summers (Ohio). Michigan took home the overall victory with 72 points. They were followed by Wisconsin (80), Michigan State (83), Notre Dame (125) and Indiana (145).
This is the last team meet for seniors Kara Butler, Jamie Roflow, Kylie Korsnack and Lyndi Springer. These senior have been the cornerstone for the team this season. Their accomplishments this season includes 10 top ten finishes, placing two runners (Butler and Roflow) on the BGSU All-time 6k record book and three of the four seniors have broken their personal best time in the 6k.
"It was an emotional day for the team and we just wanted to send them out on a high note this weekend," said Wells.
