Falcons Unable to Piece Together Strong Individual Performances in Loss to OU

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons (1-2) lost to the Ohio University Bobcats (1-2) by a slim 15 points (150.5-135.5), but took top place finishes in seven out of the 16 events. Senior Alisha Yee added two more first place finishes to her record with wins in the 200 yard backstroke, swimming it in 2:08.24 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.95.
"This was an incredible meet for us," said head coach, Keri Buff. "We missed a couple of opportunities that we could have capitalized on and those would have made a big difference."
The Falcons showed strength early in the meet as the team of Sami Jordan, Meg Richardson, Sarah Burston and Carrie Enright took the top honor coming in at a time of 4:02.92 in the 400 yard medley relay.
Megan Bomicino won the Falcons their first win of the individual events as she swam 17:41.74 in the 1650 yard freestyle.
Recording another win for the Falcons was freshman Amanda Rom who swam the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:25.63.
Later in the meet Jordan and Yee took second and third place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke; Jordan swimming in at 59.46 for a second place finish and Yee following close behind in third at 59.83.
Divers Molly Wood, Stephanie Saliga and Katie Shannon aided the Falcons in the meet. Wood took first in the 3-meter dive and second in the 1-meter dive. Saliga took third in the 1-meter dive and fourth in the 3-meter while Shannon added a third place finish in the 3-meter dive and a fourth place finish in the 1-meter event.
The 50 yard freestyle gave the Falcons a third, fourth and fifth place finish; Frankie Houck swimming into third with a time of 24.73, Enright in fourth with a time of 25.13 and Sarah Reinick tied for fifth with a time 25.31.
Finishing the meet as strongly as they started the Falcons won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a team of Reinick, Jen Beatty, Andrea Brown, and Jordan who swam the race in an even 1:40.00.
The Falcons meet Mid-American Conference rival, the Miami Redhawks tomorrow at Nixon Aquatic Center at 1:00 p.m.
