BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Coach's Notes - BG vs. WMU
While we didn't get the win, I am so proud of our team for scoring 193.075 on the road. We really needed to perform well on the road and the team did just that. It will definitely help us with our upcoming road trips to Kent State, Penn State and NC State. Also encouraging is the fact that we didn't have a perfect meet so we know we can break the 194 mark this season!!!
Our start on bars was just awesome. One right after the other, the entire line-up hit routines and the quality is improving. Our bar score was our highest event score of the evening. It was great to have Michelle Luchini back in the line-up after an ankle injury. Her 9.725 was a big help! Breanne Guy has really improved her control and she is landing her dismount well for a 9.75 score this meet! Great job ladies and congrats to Shannon- have a mentioned what an awesome assistant coach you are!
Vault was once again consistent for us. Jacque Bernhardt and Breanne Guy have really been bringing in the big scores with a 9.8 and a 9.775 respectively. This has been a steady event for us all season and it is really a credit to our vaulters for keeping their heads in the game every meet!
Floor was an area of adjustment in the warm up but we were set up for a great rotation. Unfortunately, Rachel Gourley missed her last pass and Breanne Guy had a mistake in her first pass as well as an out of bounds deduction. This was Rachel's first time in the line up this season after recovering from ankle surgery. She has great experience from last year and I fully expect she'll nail her routine at the next meet. Jenna, Queenie, Morgan and Jacque all did a great job. Jacque won floor with a 9.825! These little mistakes are easily corrected for our meet at Kent on Friday.
Going into beam we had a small lead. Katie Follett did a great job starting us off with a 9.65. She has been steady every meet. Abby Ashley and Megan Chronister both missed with their handspring-handspring-layouts. It was a tough break but Jenna, Bre and Queenie all put together great routines to finish out the evening. Queenie was exceptional with a win on beam, scoring a 9.775.
I am very encouraged by our team's excitement and energy at the last two meets. We are going to need to be perfect on Friday evening against Kent State. They are scoring well and they have a great program. We are going to do everything possible to put together our 2nd best meet of the season (our best meet of course will be at MAC Champs). In addition, we have the challenge of competing two nights in a row, a rare occurrence in gymnastics. We will be focusing all our energy on Friday evening for a run at a MAC win and then possibly changing some line-ups or trying some new skills at Penn State on Saturday evening. Roll Along!
