BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher answers a few of the many questions that have been submitted to BGSUFalcons.com. Here is the latest installment ...
Q: The football game this past season was cancelled against Arizona State. Are there plans to possibly reschedule this game?
Dale in Fountain Hills, Arizona
A: The ASU game was a stand-alone guarantee game that was cancelled about two or three years ago. We will not be rescheduling a game with Arizona State. As outlined before, our football scheduling philosophy is centered on playing fewer guarantee games and more home-and-home contracts with other non-BCS teams and a mix of BCS games where they are willing to play at The Doyt.
Examples of this philosophy begin to play out in 2009, when we complete a two-for-one playing at Missouri, finish a home-and-home by hosting Wyoming, and begin new home-and-home series with Troy at BGSU and Marshall on the road. In the years ahead, we have BCS series that will bring Indiana and Maryland to The Doyt, along with a home-and-home with Idaho.
Q: The Athletic Department has tried instilling new traditions this year at the various sporting events. How successful do you think this has been?
Brian in Bowling Green
A: Overall, our atmosphere at games has been positive. Some of that comes from an energized and engaged group of students, some from the creativity in our Marketing area and a lot of credit goes to our alumni that loyally attend games. Mixing in new elements with the existing traditions has been well received. In the spring and summer we'll review what worked, what needs tweaked and continue to work on improving the fan experience and excitement at our games. As always, feedback is welcome!
EDITOR'S NOTE: In regard to a question posed in last week's "Ask the AD" segment, the 2008 football schedule will be released on Tuesday (Feb. 26).
UPDATE: As of Tuesday morning, the MAC office has asked that schools wait until Thursday (Feb. 28) before releasing the schedules -- sorry for the inconvenience.
