Falcons Sit In Sixth After First Day of MAC Championship

YPSILANTI,Michigan - The BGSU women's track and field team traveled to Ypsilanti, Michigan this weekend where the MAC Indoor Championships were held. Competition got under way today and the Falcons currently sit in sixth place after six events with a total of 17.50 points. Most of the day was concentrated on preliminaries, but events such as the 5,000 meter run, long jump, weight throw, pentathlon, and pole vault finals were held. Akron, the defending MAC champions sit in first place, tied with Ball State. Each team has 45 points. Miami (28) and Western Michigan (20) currently sit in front of the Orange and Brown. Eastern Michigan (17), Ohio University (14), Central Michigan (12), Kent State (12), Northern Illinois (5), and Toledo (0.5) round out the bottom half of the scorers.
The Falcon throwers faired the best against the competition with a second and fourth place finish. Senior Lauren Bryant finished second with a throw of 19.22 meters (63-00.75 feet) which was 1.10 meters more than her personal best for the season. Junior Whitney Hartman earned the Orange and Brown five points with her fourth place finish. Hartman had a throw of 18.38 meters (60-03.75 feet), which was good enough for her second best throw of the indoor season.
In the 5,000 meter run, senior Jamie Roflow earned three points for the Falcons with a sixth place finish. She ran a 17:35.91 in the event, just over four seconds behind a top five finish.
Freshman Brittani McNeal and senior Amanda Sefcik finished back to back in the long jump. McNeal finished eleventh with a jump of 5:51 meters (18-01.00 feet) and Sefcik was right behind her with a jump of 5.50 meters (18-00.05 feet).
Sophomore Sabrina Forstein earned a half a point towards the Falcons total with an eighth place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.51 meters (11-06.25 feet), which was her best mark of the indoor season.
The Falcons distance medley team contributed a point due to their eighth place finish. The team had a time of 12:23.98.
