BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Coming off a week that gave the Falcons a chance to rest, the BGSU women's track and field team will head into this weekends' BGSU Quadrangular with confidence. Two weekends ago the track and field team held the Tom Wright Classic where, even though the event produced no team scoring, it still gave a chance for BGSU to improve on individual performances. The two-day event also gave the Falcons a chance to see where they stood against the competition in new events. The Tom Wright Classic was the first time that the distance medleys, 4x800 meter relay and 200 meter events were featured. The field events will kick off the BGSU Quad at 5:00p.m on Friday inside the Perry Field House.
Competing this weekend along-side the Falcons will be Toledo, Ohio and Central Michigan.
Freshman Brittani McNeal led the way for the Falcons in the 200 meter dash. Finishing with a time of 26.08, McNeal finished a close second. Teammates Brittany Johnson (26.99), Tiffany Dziak (27.41), and Rachel Doughty (27.94) rounded out the fourth, fifth and sixth place positions.
BGSU finished one-two in the 4x800 meter relay. Lyndi Springer, Heather Conger, Courtney Krummert and Barbara Powers blew away the competition with a time of 9:35.00. The Falcons' second team which consisted of runners, Andrea Pereira de Almeida, Kylie Korsnack, Tara Weiss and Lauren Zielke finished with a time of 10:09.95.
BGSU was led by young talent in the distance medley where they brought home a first place finish. Freshman Ashley Fischer, Sophomore Danielle Thornton, Sophomore Carly Bates and Senior anchor, Jamie Roflow finished over ten seconds in front of the second place team with a time of 12:09.93. The Falcons second team finished with a time of 12:43.44, good enough to place them third.
As they have all year, the mid-distance runners showed off their talents in the 600 meter run. Senior Lyndi Springer led the way with a time of 1:36.73. Following her lead, with third, fourth and fifth place finishes were Heather Conger, Danielle Thornton and Hillary Hewit.
The Falcon throwers continued their dominance in both the weight throw and shot put. BGSU took home the top four spots in the shot put with TaKarra Dunning (14.25m) taking home top honors. Whitney Hartman (13.10m), Liz Honegger (12.93m) and Katie Manocchio (11.81m) rounded out the top four positions. In the weight senior Lauren Bryant took first place with a throw of 17.85 meters.
