BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Falcons will host Northern Illinois University on Saturday (Feb. 9) for an early-afternoon bout with the Huskies ... BGSU enters the contest at 16-6 overall and 5-3 in the MAC with a bit of momentum from a 30-point road-win over Toledo last week ... NIU is 8-13 on the year with four wins and four losses coming in MAC play ... Northern's last win in Anderson Arena was a 4OT marathon in Feb. of 2004 ... the mid-day jump will be thrown at 2:00 p.m.

East Meets West
Ohio's win over Western Michigan gave the Bobcats yet another quality win to remain atop the MAC East ... despite two losses counting against their 6-2 MAC record, WMU has yet to be dethroned as the leader of the MAC West ... after week off, EMU will travel to Ohio, while Toledo will travel to Buffalo ... Miami will host WMU in a late afternoon game while Ball State will square off with Akron ... primetime action will pit visiting Central Michigan against Kent State.
Putting the West to Rest
Bowling Green has just two teams remaining on the schedule from the MAC West ... they will play North Illinois in Anderson Arena on Saturday (Feb. 9) and will then travel to Central Michigan on Wednesday evening (Feb. 13) ... to date the Falcons are 1-2 versus the MAC West including splitting a pair of road games (Ball State and Toledo) ... since departing from the West Division at the start of the 2005-06 season, Ball State and Western Michigan are the only teams from the division to beat BG.
Orange, Brown and PINK?
The "Think Pink" week for 2008 will be held February 8 - 17 ... the "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond ... the WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities ... In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the "Think Pink" a success ... Bowling Green will host their "Think Pink" game on Saturday, February 16, 2008 as the Eastern Michigan Eagles come to town ... tip-off is 7:00 ... BG will also be the visiting school as Central Michigan holds their "Think Pink" game on Wednesday (Feb. 13).
Support Like None Other
As of Feb. 4, 2008 the Falcons are the overall attendance leader as they average 1,286 fans per game no matter where their contests maybe ... in eight home games, BGSU has seen a total of 11,855 fans fill Anderson Arena for an average of 1,482 - third best in the MAC ... through those eight home games, BG is on the fast track to surpass last season's record setting home attendance numbers (1,372 at same point in 2006-07) ... in conference only games BGSU is THE team to watch drawing an average of 1,595 bodies per game in the stands ... in Anderson Arena the women's basketball program plays in front of an average of 1,746 ... the significance? ... BGSU is on track to overthrow long time attendance leader, Toledo ... for the past 17 seasons the Rockets have drawn the top average crowd ... to date, 30 fans separate the two schools ... also, UT has played one more conference game in Savage Hall (5) than the Falcons have hosted in the `Double-A' (4).
Double Order of Points; Hold the Turnovers
Senior guard Kate Achter made her final trip up I-75 memorable accounting for a career-high 13 assists, two steals and zero turnovers last Saturday at Toledo ... additionally Achter netted 11 points completing her second career double-double ... her first was Feb. 18 when she scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds versus Buffalo as a sophomore ... her turnoverless night was the seventh with the Orange and Brown ... six of those seven have occurred in MAC play with the latest occurring on the road at Kent State this season ... Achter has just missed the point/assist double-double twice this MAC season by a single assist and once by two.
Countdown to the `Q'
When the Falcons tip-off on Saturday afternoon with the Huskies an estimated month will stand between the regular season and the MAC Tournament ... through head coach Curt Miller's tenure, the Falcons are 33-15 in the month before the March tournament ... dating back three seasons, BGSU is 24-2 in February.
Prochaska Frontrunner in MAC Freshman Scoring Race
Rookie Lauren Prochaska not only ranks fifth overall in the Mid-American Conference with her 14.6 ppg, but she also the leads the league's freshman class in the scoring category ... Prochaska is one of three freshmen in the top ten ... Akron's Keyla Snowden ranks 8th overall in the MAC and second amongst diaper dandies with her 13.1 ppg ... fellow Zip Kara Murphy is 10th overall with her 12.8 ppg ... the three are the only youngsters listed on the top 30 scoring list ... in head-to-head competition both Prochaska and Murphy recorded 18 respective points while Snowden chipped in seven for the Zips ... Prochaska also lead the trio with her six rebounds and one block ... the Falcons went on to win the home contest 88-56.
Rookie Also Competing in National Scoring Race
As of Feb. 3, 2008 guard Lauren Prochaska also ranked amongst the top freshman in the country with her 14.6 ppg ... she is eight on the national list ... unanimous No. 1 UConn's Maya Moore is the leader 17.0 ppg ... she also ranks 64th overall ... four of the top freshman rank among the top 100 average scoring efforts in the NCAA while only 13 have made it to the top 250 ... to break down the current list, Prochaska ranks first with her 52 made trey's - Alabama State's Erica Lumpkin ranks second with 47 ... eight have recorded 300-plus points to date ... she is the 8th ranking player in free throws made (51) and in field-goals made (109) ... Prochaska is just one of five players to see time in 22 games this season ... the list is comprised of six guards, five centers and one forward ... nine conferences are represented on the list ... the ACC and the A-10 are both is represented by three players.

Statistically speaking Bowling Green ranks in the top three in 11 of 19 categories referenced by the Mid-American Conference weekly release ... in fact, they are the top ranking program in six areas including scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, three-point free throw percentage, turnover margin and assist to turnover ratio ... in MAC only games, Bowling Green is a top three program in eight categories.

As of the games through Feb. 3, the Falcons are ranked in the top 25 of three team NCAA statistical categories and have two top ten spots on an individual basis ... as a team, BGSU ranks 16th in assist to turnover ratio (1.06), 22nd in three-point field goal percentage (37.5) and 22nd in turnovers/game (14.6) ... the Falcons are in the top 50 of eight categories ... Kate Achter's 8.5 assists per game are the 8th best effort in the country while Lauren Prochaska's 45.8 accuracy from the three-point line in the 6th best total in NCAA DI women's basketball.
Old Fashion Points; New Fashion Records
Its no secret senior point guard Kate Achter knows how to attack a defense and draw fouls ... since playing in her first collegiate game in 2004, Achter has made 477 free throws and is on her way to setting a new program record for FT's made over her career ... entering the season she ranked fourth on the FTM list (388) while finding herself fifth all-time in the FTA (510) category ... Achter has made 477 of her 625 chances ... she now ranks second and third in the respective categories ... 2006 graduate Ali Mann owns the records for both attempts (677) and makes (482) over a four-year span ... to tie the FTM record, Achter needs to net FIVE free throws ... this season she has accounted for 89 made single-point shots ... she has been good for an average of 4.05 made free throws to this point in her final season ... twice, she has made 15-17 tries ... her .774 accuracy from the stripe ties the second best single season percentage she has posted since becoming a Falcon ... as a frosh she was 121-156 (.776) ... Achter maintained a four-game streak where she had not missed a free throw in early Jan. and late Dec.
