Head coach Kerrie Beach was very pleased when she received the news as this will be a very exciting opportunity. "I am thrilled to have two athletes competing in the 2008 NCAA Regional Championships. These two gymnasts are great examples of the direction we are taking this program in the future."
Bernhardt has had a great career for the Orange and Brown on vault. For the Central Region she is currently ranked 23rd averaging a 9.735 on vault. Her highest score on the season is a 9.875 which was set back on March 18th against Northern Illinois. Out of the 13 meets BGSU has competed in this season she has scored a 9.7 or higher in 10 of the meets. Her career best was set last year at Texas Women's University when she vaulted to a 9.925.
Bernhardt is very thrilled to have an opportunity to end her career at Regionals, "I'm excited I get to represent my team and the Falcons at Regionals. It is the perfect ending to my career. I want to go out with a bang!"
"Jacque has been so close to qualifying for Regionals throughout her career," said Beach. "What a special moment for her to make it her senior year. Jacque is a dynamic vaulter and it will be a fantastic experience for her to compete at LSU!"
Guy transferred to BGSU this season after competing for the University of Arkansas last year. She has been a great addition to a growing Falcon team. She competed in the all-around all season for the Orange and Brown. She currently is ranked 18th in the Central Region with an average all-around score of 38.462. Her best came at North Carolina State on March 9th where she posted a 38.900. On vault she is ranked 25th with an average of 9.787 with her highest being a 9.875 (vs. Northern Illinois). She holds the 40th spot on bars with an average of 9.590. Her best score was a 9.775 coming at home against Central Michigan. Beam has been her nemesis all season as she sits in the 49th spot with a score of 9.494. She scored a 9.750 at home against Eastern Michigan. On floor she claims the 54th spot with an average of 9.590. Her best is a 9.825 which was scored on the first meet of the season against Missouri.
Guy is very excited to head back down to South Eastern Conference (SEC) territory to compete at LSU. "I am really excited for this opportunity to continue competing and representing Bowling Green. I am really thankful to my teammates for their support and to my coaches for their guidance because without them this would not have been possible. I am really looking forward to the experience and enjoying the results while still continuing to work hard."
Beach was not surprised at all by the success Guy has had this season, "Bre has been solid all year in the all-around for us. Her fifth place finish at the MAC Championship definitely left her mark in our conference and now she has a great opportunity to shine at the regional level."
Regionals will take place in Baton Rouge, La at LSU. The meet will be on Saturday April 12th in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
