Senior Allison Vallas, tri-captain, was named one of the thirty Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalists as announced in the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award press release today (Mar. 4). Vallas is the first Falcon to receive this honor and is one of the three Mid-American Conference athletes to be named to this prestigious list.
Vallas, a Perrysburg, Ohio native, is a two-time All-MAC selection, a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree, and has been named to the ESPN the Magazine All-District team.
In the classroom, Vallas is an exercise science major with a 3.95 cumulative GPA, looking to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach or a softball coach. She was named to the Academic All-MAC team in 2006 and 2007, named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team in 2007, named a MAC Scholar Athlete of the on two occasions (April 19, 2007 and May 10, 2006), and named to the Dean's List all three years.
Vallas, is an active member of the Bowling Green community. For the past three years she has worked with Special Olympics Bowling, helping to run the event and interacting with the special needs children. She has volunteered at St. Al's after school program running to keep young children healthy and activity while having fun, she has used her softball knowledge to referee the alumni softball event, she has helped out at the Black Swamp volunteering to work a tent at the annual event.
On the diamond, Vallas started all 45 games last season for the Falcons. She was named first team All-MAC and Co-Offensive Player of the Year as a junior after posting a career high .369 batting average with 48 hits and 31 runs Vallas was second on the team in homeruns (9), RBIs (36), doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.669). Vallas was named MAC East Player of the Week (April 16, 2007) after hitting .500 with three doubles and two home runs. Her nine home runs earned her the third spot for single season home runs and her .669 slugging percentage earned her the second spot for the single season slugging percentage in the BGSU record books. She was also name second team All-MAC as a freshman.
In the season thus far, Vallas has .412 batting average with seven hits and .647 slugging percentage, including a double, a homerun, and four RBIs.
In her career for the Orange and Brown she has totaled 96 RBIs, second in all-time BGSU history, has recorded .478 slugging percentage, fifth in BGSU history, and smashed 12 homers, tied for sixth in BGSU history.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award is presented to NCAA Division I student-athletes in eight sports and focuses on the "Four C's of classroom, character, community and competition. CLASS stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. This award was started in 2001 to honor college basketball seniors, since then with the help of Lowe's the award has been expanded to include other NCAA sports as well. This is only the second year for the award to be given to an outstanding senior softball student-athlete.
