Last Time Out
After carding a 603 through 36 holes of action at Hoosier Invitational, the Bowling Green State university men's golf team sat in eighth-place in the 18-team field. That is where the Falcons would stay as the final round of competition was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
BGSU opened the tournament with a 310, but improved by 17 shots in round two, firing a 293, the fourth-best second round in the tournament.
Individually the Falcons were led by senior Russell Goodwin who carded a 76-73. His second round was his best round of the 2007-08 season. He currently sits in 22nd in the 90-person field.
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were Matt Schneider (78-72, 30th), Jace Walker (79-73, 43rd), Trevor Spathelf (80-75, 64th) and John Powers (77-79, 67th).
Falcons Own MAC Golfer of the Week Award
Through four weeks of the spring season the BGSU men's golf team has earned MAC Golfer of the week twice. To open the season Matt Schneider finished 20th in the 81-person field at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, carding a 226.
Then on March 12, Jace Walker was named MAC Golfer of the Week after finishing in a tie for 12th at the Palmas Del Mar, firing a 219 (71-74-74). It was the third time in the senior's career that he has won the award.
Walker Closes In on Winger
Senior Jace Walker is averaging 72.62 strokes a round this season, tops in the conference according to www.mac-sports.com. Not only does that 72.62 lead all golfer in the MAC, that average is currently the second lowest ever in a season by a Falcon, trailing only current men's head coach Garry Winger, who averaged 72.4 strokes a round in 1994. Winger, who also owns the lowest-ever career average at BGSU with a 75.00 may have to surrender that record as well, as Walker is nipping on his heals. The St. Thomas, Ontario native has played in 110 rounds, carding 8,248 stroke in his career for a 74.98 career average.
Up Next
Following the trip to Marshall the Falcons will compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate on Apr. 19-20.
