BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A fourth quarter four-yard halfback pass from Anthony Turner to Freddie Barnes secured a 7-3 victory for the Brown squad in the 2008 Bowling Green State University annual Spring Game. The contest took place inside Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
Trailing 3-0 late in the fourth quarter, junior quarterback Tyler Sheehan drove the Orange squad down to the opposing four yard-line with less than a minute remaining on the game clock. On third-and-goal Sheehan handed the ball off to Turner, who tossed a touchdown to the back corner of the endzone to Barnes for the game winner.
Sheehan, who split time between both squads, finished a combined 25-of-38 for 236 yards. Barnes led all receivers with eight catches for 81 yards.
The Orange squad's lone points came on a 44-yard field goal from Matt Norsic mid-way through the first quarter.
Defensively is where both teams stood out. For the Brown squad senior Diyral Briggs had five sacks, 10 total tackles and a pass breakup on the game's final play on a hail mary pass from Tony Hunter.
Hunter finished the game a combined 7-of-17 for 87 yards.
For the Orange squad Michael Ream had three sacks, while Calvin Marshall chipped in with one. Jason Rice and Cody Basler led the team in tackles with nine and eight respectively.
Chris Bullock led all rushers with 54 yards on 17 carries. Willie Geter was not far off the pace with 43 yards on nine carries.
The Spring Game will conclude spring ball for the Orange and Brown. Next time they take the field will be at Pittsburgh on Aug. 30.
