Falcons Eighth After 36 Holes of MAC Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a 36-hole score of 607 to sit in eighth-place at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships. The 72-hole event is being held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
While in eighth, the Falcons have a host of schools just ahead of them. Eastern Michigan leads the event at the mid-way point with a score of 584. They are followed by Kent State (586), Ohio (593), Ball State (598), Akron (604), Miami (604), BGSU (607) and Toledo (616).
The top performer for the Orange and Brown was senior Jace Walker. He opened the tournament with a 73, followed by a 74 in round two for a 36 hole score of 147. Walker is currently tied for 10th overall, five strokes behind the individual leader. Walker also is second in the tournament is par-5 scoring, going 5-under on those eight holes.
Sophomores Matt Schneider and John Powers are second and third for the Falcons. Schneider opened with a 78, but rebounded nicely in round two, carding a 74. Powers on the other hand opened with an outstanding 73, but hit a snag in round two, shooting an 82. Schneider (152) and Powers (155) are tied for 22nd and 32nd respectively.
Rounding out the Falcon competitors were seniors Russell Goodwin and Trevor Spathelf. Goodwin, 157 (80-77) is tied for 36th, while Spathelf, 158 (79-79) is tied for 39th.
Round three will take place tomorrow morning, with the final round ending on Sunday.
