Four Falcons Garner All-MAC Honors

AKRON, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference honored four Falcons as Allison Vallas and Hayley Wiemer were named to the first team, Dawnjene DeLong was named to the second team and Katelynn Boso was named to the freshman team announced by the conference at the MAC Tournament at Firestone Stadium this evening (May 7). Vallas and Wiemer earned their second straight All-MAC first team honors as they were both named first team All-MAC last season, while DeLong was named second team All-MAC for the second consecutive season as well.
Vallas a Perrysburg, Ohio native garnered first team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. She currently leads the Falcons 145 putouts and is second with 13 runs scored and 11 RBIs in MAC play. She complied a .314 batting average, .549 slugging percentage with 16 hits, three homers and three doubles in league play during the regular season. Vallas went a perfect three-for-three and drove in four RBIs including a career high two homers against EMU (April 11), becoming the sixth Falcon to do so. She was named MAC East Division POW twice (March 11 & April 15), MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week (April 17) and to the War Eagle Classic All-Tournament Team.
Wiemer a Sylvania, Ohio native earned her second straight first team All-MAC honor. She currently leads the Falcons with a .367 batting average, .918 slugging percentage, .544 on base percentage, 14 RBIs, eight homers and three doubles in MAC play despite being the eighth most walked player in the nation as of averaging 0.89 walks per game and the most walked player in the MAC averaging 0.95 walks per game. Wiemer tied the BGSU record for homers in a season (11), which she set last season as she hit two homers against Akron to close out the 2008 MAC season. On the mound she posted an 11-1 record in the MAC with the most wins and fewest losses in the MAC. Wiemer ended the 2008 MAC season with a no hitter shutout against Akron. In seven of her 15 appearances she didn't walk a single batter, walking only one batter in seven of her appearances. As of April 29th she is 13th in nation for walks allowed per seven innings averaging 0.99 walks per seven innings and leads the MAC averaging 0.80 walks per seven innings. Wiemer recorded four shutouts and retired 69 batters on strikes in 76.1 innings with an ERA of 1.93 in the MAC. Wiemer was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week twice (April 8 & 29) and MAC Scholar Athlete (April 8). She holds the BGSU record for career walks (84) and is second in the program for career homers (23).
DeLong a Hamilton, Ohio native earned second team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. She currently leads the Falcons with 21 hits, 14 runs scored and six doubles and is second on the team with four homers, a .339 batting average and a.629 slugging percentage in MAC play. DeLong is currently on a seven game hitting streak, recording 12 hits in the last seven games with four multiple hit performances. DeLong has also been a scoring machine for the Orange and Brown as she has driven home at least one run and scored at least one run in the last three games.

Boso an Akron, Ohio native rounded out the Falcons earning freshman team All-MAC honors. She has posted a .275 batting average with 14 hits including four homers, two doubles and 12 RBIs. Boso is currently on a six game hitting streak and ended the 2008 season with two homers in the Falcons' double-header against Akron (May 4). She recorded her first collegiate grand slam and homer against Ball State (April 6) lifting the Falcons to an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals. Behind the plate for the Falcons Boso has recorded 229 putouts and caught 10 runners stealing on the base path.
