In doubles action, Jakupcin teamed with freshman Christine Chiricosta for a 15-6 record in dual play, also at the top flight. That duo went 5-3 in MAC regular-season action.
On the year, Jakupcin had an overall record of 39-22, including a 22-11 slate in doubles. She was named the MAC Player of the Week twice this season, earning the honor on both Jan. 23 and Feb. 13. Additionally, Jakupcin was named the MAC's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on April 3. In the fall, she was the lone BG player to represent the Falcons in both singles and doubles at the ITA/Wilson Midwest Regional in Ann Arbor. She won her first match in the singles qualifying round that weekend.
In just three seasons with the Falcon program, Jakupcin -- BG's active career wins leader among 2007-08 team members -- has a total of 110 wins. She concluded the '07-08 campaign with a stellar singles record of 56-30, including a 15-10 record in MAC matches. Jakupcin will take a 54-40 doubles mark into her senior season. She already ranks 15th on the BGSU career list for overall wins, and is tied for 15th in singles wins. Jakupcin is deadlocked for 14th on the doubles wins list entering her senior year.
In the classroom, Jakupcin maintains a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average, majoring in communication disorders (GPA through fall, 2007, semester).
Menoff, a native of Naperville, Ill. (Neuqua Valley HS), had a stellar overall record of 35-12 on the year. She finished with a 20-6 singles mark, leading the Falcons in singles winning pct. and ranking second on the team in singles victories.
Menoff went 15-6 in doubles on the year. She was 13-4 in dual-match singles play, including a 7-0 mark at the sixth flight and a 4-2 ledger in MAC singles action. In doubles play, the junior was 3-2 in the dual-match portion of the schedule.
Menoff played at the third doubles flight with sophomore Katia Babina in MAC Championships action, splitting a pair of matches. She had teamed with Libby Harrison for a third-flight win against Akron in MAC action.
Menoff had a lengthy winning streak during the season, capturing 13 consecutive matches (eight singles, five doubles) from Jan. 13 to March 4. That came on the heels of a fall campaign in which she posted an overall record of 12-4.
After three seasons in the Brown and Orange, Menoff has a one of the best singles records in school history. Her 61-16 mark includes a 15-3 MAC record. Menoff has gone 33-24 in doubles action, giving her 94 total wins in her first three years.
Her total of 61 singles wins is tops among active Falcons, and ranks 13th on the BGSU career singles wins list. Menoff is 20th on the school's combined career list.
In the classroom, Menoff had a cumulative GPA of 3.92 in early childhood education at the time of nomination.
Jakupcin and Menoff were joined on the Academic All-MAC Team by Ball State's Jennifer Pollack, Buffalo's Denise Harijanto, Eastern Michigan's Vanessa Frankowski and the Western Michigan trio of Kerstin Pahl, Priyanka Parekh and Noriko Saruta.
The Academic All-MAC honor, not surprisingly, goes to student-athletes who has excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
The Falcons concluded the 2007-08 season with an overall dual-match record of 16-5 and a MAC regular-season mark of 4-4. BGSU tied the school's single-season record for wins, and ended the year with the highest winning percentage (.762) in three decades. BGSU advanced to the semifinal round of the MAC Championships for the second consecutive spring.
Jakupcin and Menoff are two of the six student-athletes slated to return in 2008-09. Head coach Penny Dean had two seniors, Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle, on the '07-08 squad.
