BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Curt Miller has announced Maggie Hennegan, formerly of Saint Louis University, will join the Bowling Green State University women's basketball program for the 2008-09 season. Hennegan will sit out the upcoming academic year due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two athletic seasons of eligibility remaining in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
Through her sophomore season, Hennegan accumulated 537 total points and 367 total rebounds with 220 coming on the defensive side of the court.
"We are very excited that Maggie has elected to join our program," said Miller. "Maggie was a proven post player in the Atlantic-10 Conference and was on pace to top 1,000 points and 600 rebounds for her career. More importantly, Maggie will impact our team with her outstanding character and leadership ability on and off the court."
Hennegan averaged 9.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in her 57-game Billiken career. In 27 games (16 starts) as a sophomore she averaged 8.2 points and 5.4 rebounds, shot 48.5 percent from the floor and sank 75.6 percent of her free-throw attempts. In Atlantic 10 Conference games only, she was fourth in the league in free-throw shooting with an 86.7-percent success rate.
Hennegan was the only Billiken to start all 30 games in 2006-07, her freshman campaign. She averaged 10.5 points, and her 7.4 rebounding average led the team and ranked ninth in the A-10. A two-time A-10 co-Rookie of the Week, Hennegan's 3.23 offensive-rebounding average that season was second in the conference.
"It is a credit to our program that despite our scholarship limitations, both Tamika [Nurse] and Maggie have elected to join our Falcon family," said Miller. Much like Nurse, Hennegan was recruited by the Falcons in prep school, but had already elected to join the Billikens.
