Falcons Prepare for Spartan Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team is in action for the second-straight weekend, heading to East Lansing, Mich., for the 19th annual Spartan Invitational. The two-day, eight-team tournament will be held this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 27-28), with beginning at 8:00 a.m. each day at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Facility.
In addition to head coach Penny Dean's squad, the tournament field will include Akron, Cleveland State, Detroit, Louisville, Marshall, Toledo and host MSU. Each will face three opponents in singles and three opponents in doubles in a flighted round-robin format.
The Falcons are coming off a successful start to the 2008-09 season, having hosted the BGSU Invitational last weekend. Three of the teams in that invite -- UA, CSU and UDM -- also venture to the Spartan Invitational this weekend.
Competing for the Brown and Orange will be seniors Libby Harrison, Kelsey Jakupcin and Stefanie Menoff, juniors Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel and sophomore Christine Chiricosta. The Falcons' lone freshman, Jessica Easdale, is out indefinitely.
Following this weekend's action, the Falcons will prepare for the MAC Fall Invitational, which will be held in Kalamazoo, Mich., from Oct. 10-12.
