Cross Country Women Receive Regional Ranking In Great Lakes Region

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - For the first time in 2008, the Bowling Green State University women's cross country team has received a regional ranking, as the Falcons came in at 13th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association's Division I Great Lakes Regional poll, released by the organization on Monday.
The Falcons of head coach Cami Wells are 1-of-6 Mid-American Conference teams appearing in the rankings this week, as they come off a strong showing on the west coast.
A career-best 6,000 meter time of 22:14 by senior Kara Butler (Okemos, Mich.), helped the BG women finish 16th of 33 teams this past Saturday at the 35th Annual Stanford University Cross Country Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course. Butler finished 29th overall of 278 runners, in an event that featured many of the country's top squads.
In all, BG had five of its' runners finish in the in the top-120, including four in the top-100. Just 12 seconds behind Butler in the 35th-spot was senior Jamie Roflow (Cincinnati, Ohio), who ran a time of 22:26. She followed by Bowling Green native Kylie Korsnack who was the No. 3 ruuner for BG, finishing 93rd with a new personal-best 6K time of 23:21.
Other Falcons who had strong finishes were sophomore Ashley Fischer (Fremont, Ohio), who finished 98th with a time of 23:24 and Autumn Dettman (Watertown, Wis.), who finished 120th with a time of 23:46.
Celina, Ohio native Lyndi Springer came across the line in the 141st position and a time of 24:09, while Carly Wells (Palatine, Ill.) rounded out the BG squad in the 144th-position and a time of 24:13.
BG will return to action on Fri., Oct. 10 when they head to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships. The event will kick-off at 2 p.m.
