BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was prominently featured in a Thursday (Sept. 4) story on ESPN.com. The Falcons -- and the falcon statue - were the lead story in the website's "MAC Shootaround."

For much of the summer, ESPN.com's "Shootaround" series has been providing notes and numbers about college men's basketball teams, league by league. It was the MAC's turn on Thursday, and the page featured a story on the Falcon program, and the statue which will be located outside the new Stroh Center.
Whelliston's story also mentioned the homecourt advantage of the Falcons' current venue, Anderson Arena, and quoted Falcon head coach Louis Orr as saying "The House That Roars" was roaring on March 1.
"And no home win resonated like the victory over Kent State on March 1. The Golden Flashes came into Anderson on a six-game winning streak, ranked No. 23 by the Associated Press after a BracketBusters win over Saint Mary's. Backed by 24 points from Brian Moten and a 21-point, 12-assist performance by Joe Jakubowski, the Falcons overcame late pressure and knocked Kent straight out of the polls with an 89-83 victory.
'When we played Kent State at home, they were on a roll,' Orr recalled. 'But that day, the building had that feeling people talk about when they talk about Anderson Arena. Before other teams get there to play you, they're on the bus thinking about how tough it's going to be.'

The Falcons will return all 10 letterwinners from last season's 13-17 team, plus two additional players who lettered in previous years. BGSU will play a home exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 8, before opening the regular season on the road on Nov. 14. The complete 2008-09 schedule should be available right here at BGSUFalcons.com sometime within the next few days.
