Coach Brandon
What do you tell your team after that game?
"Turnovers, that's why we lost the game. No questions about it. We were in the game. I thought the kids were playing well. We had our chances in the third quarter, but we fumbled a kick-off and let them get a two score lead on us and that was the game in my opinion. We just didn't take care of the football."
Was Minnesota better than you thought they were?
"I thought they were better going in and I said that. I thought they were better offensively because they had a year in their system and they were much faster defensively than they were last year, but we moved the ball. We struggled to score points and four fumbles, just killed us. It took us right out of the game. It would be one thing if we lost 28-21 or something. Turnovers in the plus side makes it tough, we can't keep putting our defense out there. They were a physical football team and looked like a Big Ten football team. No question."
How frustrating is it that you guys didn't give your best?
"There are a group of seniors that are just devastated. We had a great home crowd and really appreciated the fans coming out and supporting us. We didn't do our part. We didn't get it done today. To lose the way we did, coughing it up just makes it that much harder to swallow."
Did it surprise you at all how quickly the score changed?
"When you turn the ball over that can happen. It can get away from you fast. If I could put my finger on it we would never turn it over. That's football. They played a solid game, took care of the football and we didn't."
How do you approach your team now after such an emotional high last week and an emotional low this week?
"We talked about that. We need to develop some consistency. I still think we played at a high enough level to win the game if you take out the turnovers. I saw our guys really fired up and ready to play. We were in the game until we turned the ball over. I think you're not going to get a better atmosphere."
John Haneline
On tonight's game and the atmosphere
"With a great fan turnout, we never want to let them down and we never want to let down your brother playing next to you."
On team's morale after the game
"We win and lose as a team. Everything we do, we work our tails off, together, to execute on Saturdays."
On Minnesota's offensive play
"We had a hard time with the short field and Minnesota had a great game plan and we didn't execute the way we wanted in certain situations."
Tyler Sheehan
On tonight's loss to Minnesota
"It's disheartening that we let this one go but we just have to learn from it."
On the team's performance
"I think we played well, but we just shot ourselves in the foot with turnovers."
On Minnesota's defensive play
"They played a lot of odd defense. We saw that when they played odd against Northern Illinois they blitzed a lot and we had to change our game plan once we saw how they were going to play. We are an empty team and Northern Illinois didn't have one empty snap, so we were up in the air about using plays."
