Falcons Lead John Piper Intercollegiate After 36 Holes

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a 36-hole score of 586 (294-292) at the opening day of the John Piper Intercollegiate, and currently sit in first place with 18 holes remaining in the two-day event. The 54-hole event is taking place at Stoneridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The Falcons (586) lead Ohio by one stroke (587), followed by Eastern Kentucky (590), Detroit (590) and Cleveland State (596) to round out the top-five teams.
Three Falcons can be found in the top-10 of the 75 player field.
Matt Schneider carded back-to-back rounds of 70 for a 4-under 140 through 36 holes of action. He is currently tied with John Mlynarski of Ohio for medalist honors.
John Powers is currently tied for seventh after firing a 147 (75-72) and freshman Drew Preston is tied for ninth with a 36-hole score of 148 (72-76).
Rounding out the top five Falcons are Bryan Mitchell (152, T-23rd) and freshman Parker Hewit (153, T-30th).
Chad Walker (164, T-66th) and Scott Blackburn (166, 73rd) competed as individuals for the Orange and Brown, but their scores can not count towards the Falcon team score.
The third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m.
