CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's basketball sophomore Lauren Prochaska has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday evening (Jan. 19). Prochaska earns the honor for the second consecutive week, the fourth time this season, and the fourth time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), averaged 25.0 points and 5.0 rebounds as the Falcons posted a pair of home victories to move to 4-0 in the MAC. The Brown and Orange picked up wins over Miami, 87-79, and Akron, 80-51, last week.
Prochaska exploded for 32 points, tying her career high, in the win over Miami Wednesday (Jan. 14). The point total was just three shy of tying the school record. Prochaska also tied her career best by making five three-point field goals in that game, and she set a new career standard in free throws made, going 13-of-14 from the line. She also had a pair of blocked shots in the win over the RedHawks to match that career best.
On Saturday (Jan. 17) against Akron, Prochaska scored a game-high 18 points, and tied for team honors with seven rebounds and three steals. She was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the win over the Zips.
On the week, Prochaska shot 55.0 percent (11-for-20) from the field, including a 7-for-13 (53.8%) effort from three-point range. She was a stellar 21 of 22 at the free-throw line, for a 95.5% rate.
On the year, Prochaska is averaging 17.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories and ranking third in the MAC in scoring. In MAC games only, she leads the league in that category, at 23.0 points per game. Just a sophomore, she now has 800 career points.
Prochaska earned this week's MAC P-O-W honor for the East Division. Central Michigan's Angel Chan earned the West Division honor.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 15-2 on the season and 4-0 in MAC play, conclude a three-game homestand this week. BGSU will take a 15-game winning streak into a Wednesday (Jan. 21) game vs. Buffalo, with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena.
