BGSU Roars Back Into Action This Weekend At Penn State
Women's Golf To Play In Nittany Lion Invitational This Weekend
October 01, 2009 | Women's Golf
After beginning the season with two weather-shortened outings, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team hopes to complete a full tournament this weekend as they travel to Big Ten country to play in the 34th annual Nittany Lion Invitational.
The tournament will be hosted by Penn State University in State College, PA. The three-round tournament will commence at the Penn State University Blue Course, which is par-72 and 6,305 yards for a full 18 holes. Two rounds will be played on Saturday, October 3rd, and the final round will be played on Sunday, October 4th.
A total of 16 teams will participate in this year's event, including Bowling Green. Aside from being pitted against a Big Ten foe, the Falcons will also find themselves competing against two MAC schools -- Eastern Michigan and Ball State. Also in the field of 16 is William & Mary, the defending tournament champions.
This is not Bowling Green's first trip to State College. Last Setpember, the Falcons played in the Nittany Lion Invitational and walked away with a score of 967 (315-320-332) over the three rounds for a 13th place finish.
In that tournament, junior Lauren Glew posted three sub-80 rounds to score a 232 (76-77-79) and tie for 16th place. Senior Megan Gormley tied for 32nd place after carding a 236 (77-79-80). Four other Falcon golfer participated - junior Marisa Glew (246), junior Megan Bader (254), senior Hannah Lambert (266) and sophomore Paul DiFrancesco (266).
Bowling Green's return to action this weekend follows a wind-shortened Youngstown State University Invitational in which the Falcons placed second as a team and all five individuals placed in the top eleven. Megan Gormley led the way for the Orange and Brown with a team low of 79 (39-40).
A full recap and statistics will be available shortly after the conclusion of play at Penn State on both Saturday and Sunday.
